On Monday, August 26th, 2024 a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the newly placed Recycling Bins at 1225 S. Union St., Foundation Park. The City will work with OSS (Ottawa Sandusky Seneca Recycling District) to provide a location for residents of Fostoria to take their recyclable items. The site consists of 4 Recycling bins provided and maintained by OSS. Proper use of these bins will ensure success and longevity of this new program.
To ensure that residents are well educated on what items can be placed in these bins, the City has started an advertising campaign called "Recycle Fostoria."
"Recycle Fostoria" will promote educational and resourceful information via pamphlets, Facebook posts, Website blogs, etc. This will guarantee that Fostoria residents have the proper resources to refer to when they're not sure if an item is recyclable or not.
Aside from the OSS recycling bins, the City also works hand in hand with Clothes Bin. Clothes Bin is a recycling company that provides a convenient way for resident's to dispose of their unwanted shoes and clothes. These green and purple bins are strictly for clothes, shoes, and textiles only.
Fostoria Codified Ordinances Chapter 521, Section 521.08 addresses garbage. Placing garbage in the recycling bins is a third-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in jail, a fine of $500 or both. It is up to the citizens of Fostoria to self-police the recycling bins.
